About the project

Dragotin Kette is an Ilirska Bistrica compatriot who was born on 19th January 1876 in Prem. He died on April 26, 1899 in Ljubljana. Among the four modern poets (Dragotin Kette, Ivan Cankar, Josip Murn and Oton Župančič), he was the most original and free-thinking. His poetic expression reaches deep into the soul of the individual and the nation. With his poetry he marked the entire Slovenian culture, the time in which he lived, as well as present time.

He got the inspiration for his verses in the Slovenian nation, personal life experiences and maturations, and the Slovenian cultural heritage. Although he sadly died prematurely, as an artist in his short life he matured very early, which was reflected in his poetic creativity. He spent a lot of time with Ivan Cankar. He read him his verses and rhymes.

“Kette connects us” intends to take Dragotin Kette’s poetry in modern musical language to different generations of the population. Thus, Kette’s songs will sound in the popular rhythms of pop, hip-hop and waltz and polka. “Kette connects us” presents the poet Dragotin Kette to various target groups.

By setting Kette’s poetry to music in the musical disguise of modern times, the poet approaches to the musical language of today’s youth.heritage.
