About the project

Dragotin Kette was a Slovenian poet born on January 19 1876 in Prem near Ilirska Bistrica in Slovenia. He died on April 26 1899 in Ljubljana. Among the four modern poets (Dragotin Kette, Ivan Cankar, Josip Murn and Oton Župančič), he was the most authentic and idiosyncratic. His poetic expression reaches deep into the soul of the individual and the nation. With his poetry he marked the entire Slovenian culture. His influence on contemporaries and society was strong. He coformed the public opinion in time he lived. His poetry expresses values that are valuable in our time.

He got the inspiration for his verse from personal life experience and growth. He artistically matured very early, which was reflected in his poetic creativity. He spent a lot of time with Ivan Cankar. Kette read him his verses and rhymes.

“Kette connects us” is a project  that presents Dragotin Kette’s poetry in modern musical language to different generations of the public. Thus, Kette’s poetry will resonate in the popular rhythms of pop, hip-hop, waltz and polka.

Programs intended for children and youth represent the poet as a bearer of important messages that raise awareness of the importance of values, interpersonal relationships and national cultural heritage. The project is intended for a broader audience as well as a means of sensibilization and melodiousness since Kette’s poetry set in modern musical shape and expression.

“Kette Connects Us” is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund.
